Middle Whatcom Falls

Middle Whatcom Falls is probably the best waterfall in the park. Here the creek spreads out over an 80' wide stretch and drops 15' in a thunderous display of aquatic awesomeness. It can be seen from a viewing platform high above the creek but the views are blocked by a number of trees. You can also reach the falls from the opposite side of the creek and view it from the bottom. During high water this approach is not possible. The falls are also called Pixie Falls for some reason.

DIRECTIONS - Take the Lakeway Exit off I-5 in Bellingham and head east. Turn left onto Yew Street which turns into Woburn. In about 2 miles, the road crosses over Whatcom Creek. The trailhead is just north of here. (Parking is non-existent in the area so good luck.) Follow the trail up the stairs to the viewpoint looking down on the falls. You can also park in a small turnout just before the bridge over the creek and follow that road down to the creek. From there you can pick your way upstream and reach the base of the falls.
