Dry Falls is a cool location. While there is currently not a waterfall at the site, it was once the home to the largest waterfall in the history of the planet. Near the end of the ice age(s), a massive ice dam broke, emptying the enormous Lake Missoula in an event known as the Missoula Floods (or Bretz Floods depending on who you're reading). Water poured over the majority of the Eastern half of WA state, creating the Channeled Scablands, the series of coulees found along the Columbia River, and a number of other erosion features. It may have even been responsible for a good deal of the erosion of the Columbia River Gorge near Portland. During these floods, the waters dropped over a 350' tall, three-and-a-half mile wide waterfalls as it carved out a 28 mile long canyon in only a couple of weeks. The amount of water was so massive that it was 100' deep as it dumped over the waterfall. (For comparison, Niagara Falls is about 3' deep.) All that is left of this waterfall now are the enormous cliffs and a series of lakes filling in the bottom of the canyon. It's a really cool location with a great visitors' center and it is worth the drive to check out.
