Hearty Creek begins its life in Heart Lake and proceeds to drop over eleven waterfalls on its way to the South Fork, culminating in Bridal Veil Falls. As one progresses downstream, the names of the waterfalls follow the pattern from caring about someone as a person to falling more and more in love, eventually ending in marriage at Bridal Veil.
Compassion Falls is the tallest waterfall in the upper part of Hearty Creek. The waterfall contains three tiers: a 65' tall plunge, a 12' tall block, and then a pretty 9' tall slide into a pool of crystal clear water. Add them all up and you get an 86' tall beauty of a waterfall. When the volume is lower later in the summer the main tier will be a single plunge, but when the volume is higher, you'll see little dribbles of waterfall dropping all over the cliff, making the waterfall as wide as it is tall. The area around Compassion Falls is beautiful with evergreen trees sprouting up all over the place. If you make it into the meadows of Hearty Creek Valley, it's not much work and it is absolutely worth the additional effort to view this gorgeous waterfall.
